It’s become harder and harder to get out of bed each morning.

Thoughts on Lollapalooza

This was my first year attending Lollapalooza! We only bought tickets for Sunday, which ultimately (due to my issues with heat) was a good idea. Going for the whole weekend probably would’ve been a bit much for me, haha. Hopefully next time I can go for the whole time though!

First we stopped by Bowerbirds but didn’t end up staying long since it wasn’t that exciting. I don’t mind their music but live was kinda boring.

Then we went to Oberhofer. Love, love, love! Definitely one of my favorite performances. I already was a fan but the energy was great, and they were so good live. Plus the lead singer ran down the center and was RIGHT next to me. Woohoo!

Then we saw Sigur Ros. They were, of course, amazing. Unfortunately, this is when I collapsed from heat exhaustion so I was a bit out of it for their performance. Dammit! But it was still great.

After that was Of Monsters and Men. It was so packed for them that I literally couldn’t see a thing on stage, but they were excellent live and really adorable in between songs.

I’m not a huge Florence + the Machine fan but I think she’s really talented so I was hoping to catch some of her performance. Unfortunately we made our way over there, and it was PACKED. We were so far back that we couldn’t even see the stage so it was hardly worth staying. We did hear her perform ‘Say My Name’ (it was great) and also heard her talk a bit (which honestly was a bit strange…she was a little weird).

So, we left to get a good spot for Miike Snow. LOVE this performance! So good for live electronica, although he looked nothing like how I imagined (long hair and a beard, wha?). The crowd was really into it, and it was overall just so much fun.

Then we caught a bit of Jack White (I’ve never been a White Stripes fan so this wasn’t anything I was excited about) and a bit of Justice (French band for the win!). I wish I would’ve been feeling better so we could have stayed longer for Justice but we were so far back that it wasn’t that big of a deal to leave anyway. The energy was great though, and there was a fun dance party going on.

Overall it was a great time! I desperately wanted to go on Saturday as well but we missed out on tickets :( Bummer! But one day was perfect. I definitely want to return in the future!

My stress levels are at an all-time high.

Between having two jobs, looking for grad programs, studying for the GRE, and trying to hang out with friends who are moving on soon, I feel like I’m being pulled in too many directions, and none of them are satisfied with the attention they are receiving.

Whoever said summer was relaxing clearly didn’t have to go to grad school.
